Finding the Rhythm

I will leave for Liberia early Tuesday morning. I have resisted seeing the ten thousand mile journey as the "epic event" that friends and family sometimes call it. Every life lived is worthy of an epic poem. To wake up each day where we are and and live as best we are able into the love of Christ, that is what is "epic". Soon I will live in community with other folks who also have much to teach me. We will face daily struggles and triumphs together. I am reminded that when I embrace the awkward moments in the unfamiliar, I more quickly find the rhythm in a new place. God, grant me the grace to meet my brothers and sisters in the fullness of your love, compassion, and understanding, and give me a listening heart.
