My Neighborhood
I really like my neighborhood. In some ways it reminds me of parts of the lower east side of Manhattan in the 70's. A little Soho, Washington Square, and Gramercy Park. Multi cultural , socio-economically diverse, there are lots of conveniences and interests. In part, it might be a revival of self discovery and the curiosity of discovering living in a new place, making a home, and becoming acquainted. I remember then too the unexpected, "Hello, Michael. how are you?" (Oi, Michael. Como vai?" While I live in the central district of the city, it is very much a neighborhood. I walk to work, take the bus to school, parks and other parts of Curitiba, and public transportation is very convenient and efficient. Many routes have separate bus lanes that keep the buses moving. During rush hour, you get there faster than by car. I can walk to the old part of the city and there is park and recreation two minutes away. Today is clear and Spring is just a few weeks away, so neighbors are planting flowers and cleaning up their green space. It's a tidy city and the streets and cobble stone sidewalks are well maintained. People are very friendly to the estrangero. I really like my neighborhood!
