A Monday Holiday
There it was--right in front of me at the cheese shop. The same one I buy at Peet's when they have it, usually about this time of year. OK. A smaller pan inside a larger one filled with water and you have a double boiler for the scrambled eggs. Fresh eggs from the guy selling them out of a basket at the corner. OK. Bacon? Hmmm. Oh, it's not sliced but that big square of pork and fat that looks like a ham hock. OK. It's time to buy a good utility knife. Toast? No toaster and no oven. (Not that unusual.) French bread buttered and warmed in a skillet. Got it! I had a great breakfast today. It's a holiday here. No, I assure you that it is not Columbus Day here. "He did not discover America, so what is the big deal?" I'm learning more than language. And, "the Wright brothers did not discover aviation, a Brasileiro did." And, Brasil is going to win the World Cup in 2014. But, I say that the US "futebol" (soccer) team are no longer "zebras" (dark horses) and I still say that the USA is better in beach volleyball! They are very, very patient with the estrangero.
