I am in Brasilia for three months studying language, history and Brasilian culture CCM Institute. One of the unexpected gifts is the international community of students.
Countries represented include Columbia, Mexico, El Salvador, Cameroon, the Sudan, The Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, India, Italy, Germany, Poland, Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the United States. All studying Portuguese and Brazilian Culture together. All "estrangeros" with visas. The twenty people include sixteen Catholic priests, three women from religious communities and one Anglican lay missionary. Last night we had a festa (dinner celebration) with a samba band. Everyone sang a popular culture song from her or his country.
It was great! "Thank you, thank you very much...One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock rock.."
Everyone knew the music of Elvis, and everyone got up and jitterbugged--as it were. Music and dance. The international language.
