Creating Space

In preparation for Lent, I think less about what I will give up and more about what I might make room for in my life--what I might take on. I approach it with the joy of unknown possibilities. Making space for the creativity of the Holy Spirit. What do I consume needlessly? What do I waste? Material consumption, time, engaging in gossip or here say, worry? To make space for what is good and what nurtures. It serves small purpose for me to give up chocolate, or diet cola, or lattes for forty days; unless there is an additional intended outcome. If it is for self improvement, OK. But, I ask myself, "What can I do with the dollar or two a day?" I may well have more energy. "What can I do with that energy?"
Lent. Not about sacrifice, rather about creating space and for discovering ways to participate more fully in The Great Mission. How might I live into the covenant of my Baptismal Vows more fully? "Make me hear of joy and gladness, that the body you have broken may rejoice."
