New Stuff
The second hand, reconditioned cell phone that I've used on four continents died. Dead. I don't like to buy new stuff because of the cost, the waste and polution. But, there's something else too. I really like the stories that are written on old jackets, worn boots, used cell phones and cameras. I travel lightly and find it provides greater ease. Stuff is a distraction, and new stuff seems even more so. I don't worry so much about losing an old phone, camera or glasses. It's always the new things that one loses more easily. I really don't like new stuff, but with any luck, the new phone will write its stories too--and be more "friendly". BTW, the old phone is being reconditioned and will be given to a Brazilian soldier serving a peace keeping mission somewhere in the world. I wonder where that phone had been before.
