"O all you, who pass along this way,
behold and see if there is any sorrow like unto my sorrow."
Lamentations 1:12
In 2005, while on pilgrimage with a group from Grace Cathedral, led by The Rev. Mark Stanger and guided by Palestinian Christian Guide Iyad Qumri, at the X Station of the Cross, I was struck with deep and profound grief, for Christ's humiliation and suffering. And, in his deep pain, in his realization that this was certainly the end, Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, and he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. Compassion!
