Finding the Rhythm II

I often think about "the rhythm" of a place. New York, New Orleans, London, Rome, Jerusalem, Gaza, Nicaragua, and Liberia have distinctive rhythms. Discovering that has been key to my adapting to my new surroundings. The pace, the walk, the speak, the routine are all to a different beat of the drum. Here, I find it is a slow dance. Even in the quiet of the night, the crickets keep a slow steady cadence. There's a caution and maybe a weariness. It's difficult to slow down sometimes when you are use to the beat of rock'n roll. But, I like slowing down--I just need to find the groove. Sometimes the hot weather and freshly cut grasses remind me of an earlier time in the South. It's hot here, and heat slows the music way down. I keep listening for a familiar refrain.
