Valuing Resources
I'm learning much about valuing resources. For Brazilians it is a sensibility that is part of their nature. Simple routine, like only having lights on in occupied rooms, motion detectors to turn lights on and off in public spaces, room temperature showers, and unplugging appliances. People spend little time on the telephone because the costs are so prohibitive, and most houses and buildings have no central heat. Paper is expensive, and it is not uncommon to write notes on the back of a scraps. I've learned from my colleagues to take paper from the wastebasket and use it. It's not because we don't have paper, but rather it is about sensibilities. And, there is far less printing of emails and information off the Internet. It's their nature, and they are teaching me.
