Brasileiros often speak of "tranquilidade". It is eery much cultural and can seem in contrast with their joyous and passionate persona. It is not. I recall my physician after an annual physical some years ago commenting, "You seem very happy." "I think more content", I replied. "Excellent!", he responded. "That is a very underestimated state of being." "Tranquility" and "Contentment" are good platforms for "Joy" and "Sorrow", the emotions that visit us and are more elusive. I like many things about Brasil, but perhaps the one thing most is "Tranquilidade".
Beneath their aspirations, dreams, and desires, there is a contentment with who they are and what they have.
