I received a promotional message from a shop in Los Angeles I like very much. "More is More..", it read. A clever take on architect Mies van der Rohe's precept, "Less is more."
But, it left me wondering if "more really is ever more", and if more sometimes is actually less. It's been a tough year for retailers and businesses. They are struggling to keep alive. I'm on their side and I honor enterprise and incentive to succeed. I am able to do what I do today because of the business I started and grew which business plan relied on "more". I like the nice apartment, the clothes, the cars (I Zip now), the travel and the stuff. And I am grateful for the security I might have. I'm just wondering when More might not be More, and actually be less. I think More is Less when More prevents me from sharing More. I think More is Less when More overwhelms children and confuses them. I think More is Less when More is used as a drug. I think More is Less when it is a distraction from what interests me most. So, I'm going to try even harder to see and understand when More is Less for me.
